Inside the course

The 9 lessons

1. Make your first sample flyer (free lesson)

Install Canva, choose a free template, change it for a made-up local business and save it two ways: for WhatsApp and for printing.

2. Pick your services

Start with two or three services that fit your area. A busy taxi rank, a school, a church and a row of shops all want different things.

3. Design basics that make you look professional

Few fonts, strong contrast, big readable text, real photos and space to breathe. Before-and-after examples of common mistakes.

4. Free AI for the words

Write flyer text, menu descriptions and invitations with ChatGPT, Gemini or Meta AI. Check spelling and prices, and draft translations into isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho or Afrikaans that a fluent speaker then checks.

5. Funeral programmes, done with care

A respectful layout, the order of service, photos, hymns, and checking every name and date with the family. Partner with a local printer and make a print-ready PDF.

6. CVs and typing help for others

Use what Job Ready teaches to make CVs for paying clients. Help people with online forms safely: never keep their passwords, PINs or ID copies after the job is done. This is also what POPIA expects.

7. Your portfolio in one day

Make six samples, put them in a WhatsApp Business catalog, and post them on your Status and Facebook.

8. Prices, deposits and getting paid

Work out your price, take a deposit before you start, send a watermarked preview, and send the final file once you've been paid. Templates included.

9. Find customers and keep records

Printers, churches, salons, funeral parlours and community groups (always ask the admin first). Keep a simple record of every rand. If your yearly taxable income goes above R99,000 (under 65, 2026/27), you may need to register with SARS as a provisional taxpayer (check sars.gov.za).

The honest part

This won't replace a full salary in the first month. Most people start with a few small jobs from people they know, then grow through word of mouth. The people who do well answer quickly, get the spelling right and deliver on time.

Your first clients usually come from your own street, church, school or WhatsApp contacts. Start there.
