Job Ready · Lesson 2 · About 30 minutes

Build your CV with free AI

AI can turn your notes into a clean, professional CV in minutes. But it doesn't know you, and it sometimes makes things up. So you give it the facts, and you check every line.

What you need

  • A free AI chat app: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Meta AI (it's inside WhatsApp, look for the blue ring).
  • Your details: school and results, any courses, every job or piece job you've done, and two references who've agreed to be called.

Step 1: Write your facts down first

Open your Notes app and type quick notes. Don't worry about grammar. For example: "Matric 2023, Thabo High, maths lit and English. Packed shelves at a Spar on Saturdays 2024, 8 months. Look after my gran. Choir leader at church. Good with Excel from school."

Step 2: Give the AI this prompt

Copy this, then paste your notes where it says to.

You are a South African recruiter. Turn my notes into a CV of at most two pages. Use these sections in this order: Contact details, Profile (3 lines), Key skills, Work experience (newest first), Education, References. Rules: - Use only the facts in my notes. Do not invent jobs, dates, results or skills. - If something important is missing, ask me questions at the end instead of guessing. - Write clearly and simply, in South African English. - Use bullet points that start with an action word, like "Packed", "Helped", "Led". - Do not add a photo, ID number, age, religion or marital status. Step 3: Answer its questions

A good AI will ask things like "How many customers did you help a day?". Answer honestly. Real numbers make a CV stronger.

Step 4: Check every line

  • Is every job, date and result true? Delete anything that isn't.
  • Are your phone number and email exactly right? Phone yourself to check.
  • Have your references said yes, and are their numbers correct?
Why leave out your ID number? You don't need it on a CV, and CVs get passed around. Share it only when a real employer asks for it at the offer or vetting stage.

Step 5: Save it as a PDF

Copy the finished CV into Google Docs (free) or Microsoft Word on your phone. Use one plain font, size 11 or 12. Then save or download it as a PDF called "Name-Surname-CV.pdf". A PDF looks the same on every phone and computer.

Your task

Finish your CV as a PDF today. Then send it to one person you trust and ask: "Would you call me for an interview?"

Next in the course: turning piece jobs and family responsibilities into real experience, then cover letters and the best SA job sites. See the full course.
